The Writer
Hawaii to
Brooklyn,
by way of Broadway.
Aidan Wharton grew up in a yurt in the Hawaiian jungle, studied musical theatre at Penn State, and spent his twenties on the road with the national tours of Wicked and Girl From The North Country. There was a Broadway run. There were two films: Fire Island and Bros.
He started writing Gay Buffet between performances. The column found readers, then more readers. In 2024 he came home to New York, wrote full time, and launched Getting Close, a weekly podcast about the people teaching us how to stay close. He lives in Brooklyn with his husband.
The Podcast, Weekly
Getting
Close.
“Conversation is a technologywe keep forgetting.”
A weekly interview podcast about the skill of connection in an age that quietly stopped teaching it. Aidan sits down with experts in intimacy, community, and the practical work of being close to other people for an unhurried hour the algorithm will never reward.
